Established in 1966, the Macedonian Community acquired what was a single storey hall constructed of handmade brick. In April 1969, it was dedicated as St Ilijia's Macedonian Orthodox Chruch.
Since the early 60’s the Macedonian Community continued to grow. With the establishment of the St Ilijia Macedonian Orthodox Church, the Community built a large Community Centre which has facilitated many of our Community’s events, family celebrations and gatherings in Queanbeyan for decades.
In affiliation with our Community Centre and Church, a number of key Macedonian non-for-profit operated organizations and groups were developed overtime. These included the Queanbeyan City Football Club, KUD Razigrana Makedonka, Macedonian Language School, Pensioners Group, Macedonian Library and the Macedonian-Australian Women’s Association which still stand today.
